Meeting People Where They Are

Homelessness and addiction are deeply intertwined. Many individuals cycle between the streets, emergency shelters, and crisis situations — not because they lack the will to change, but because they lack the bridge to stable support.

The Lazarus Project works directly with individuals to help secure emergency hotel accommodations through community partnerships, navigate detox and treatment options, and connect with the agencies and services needed for a real path forward.

We don't just hand out pamphlets. We sit with you, walk with you, and advocate for you — rooted in the dignity every person carries as a child of God.

The Process

How We Help

From first contact to long-term stability — here's what working with us looks like.

Reach Out

Contact us by phone or email — or ask a partner agency to refer you. There's no paperwork to start. We just listen first.

Needs Assessment

We sit down together (in person or by phone) to understand your situation — housing, sobriety, health, legal, and family needs — without judgment.

Emergency Stabilization

When safe shelter is the immediate need, we work with community partners to arrange hotel accommodations while longer-term solutions are built.

Resource Navigation

We connect you — and often accompany you — to detox programs, treatment centers, county human services, VA benefits, housing assistance, and more.

Ongoing Support

Recovery and stability don't happen overnight. We stay in your corner — through our gatherings, one-on-one check-ins, and connection to the broader Lazarus Project community.

Hotel Placement

Emergency hotel stays arranged through community partnerships when someone has nowhere safe to sleep.

Detox Navigation

Guidance through detox options, medical clearance, and treatment intake — we help remove the barriers.

Sobriety Support

Connection to AA, Al-Anon, faith-based recovery, and The Lazarus Project's own community gatherings.

Benefits Navigation

Help accessing county services, veteran benefits, FoodShare, Medicaid, and community assistance programs.

Agency Referrals

Warm hand-offs to Renewal Unlimited, CWCAC, Human Services, VA, and other trusted partners.

Spiritual Support

For those who want it — prayer, sacraments through St. Patrick Parish, and faith-rooted encouragement.

Community Partnerships

The Lazarus Project collaborates with trusted local and county agencies to ensure our clients receive the full spectrum of care they need.

Coordination with county social workers for housing assistance, mental health services, crisis intervention, and public benefits access.

Veterans Affairs (VA)

Connecting veterans experiencing homelessness or addiction with the VA services, HUD-VASH vouchers, and veteran-specific recovery programs they've earned.

Renewal Unlimited

Partnering with Renewal Unlimited's workforce development, housing, and reentry programs to help clients build lasting stability beyond immediate crisis.

Central Wisconsin Community Action Coalition

Collaboration with CWCAC for emergency assistance, utility support, food resources, and community-based services across the region.

Who We Serve

You Don't Have to Qualify for Compassion

We serve anyone in Juneau County and surrounding areas who is struggling with homelessness, addiction, or both. There is no wrong door.

We Can Help If You Are...

  • Experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing housing
  • Struggling with alcohol or drug addiction
  • Looking for detox or treatment but don't know where to start
  • A veteran facing homelessness or substance use
  • Recently released from jail or treatment and need stable footing
  • A family member trying to help a loved one in crisis
  • In need of emergency shelter while working toward next steps
  • Anyone who has fallen through the cracks of other systems
You do not have to be Catholic to receive help. Our outreach is open to all people regardless of faith, background, or situation.

How to Reach Us

You can also have a county worker, VA rep, or treatment counselor refer you directly.
